All non-resident overseas students can enroll in degree and non-degree programs at the College of International Education and other departments or colleges at CAA. The followings are definitions of student and program types:

According to residence and citizenship status, students are categorized as foreign students. Foreign students are students with foreign citizenships.

Programs offered by CAA are categorized as degree programs, non-degree long-term programs, non-degree short-term programs, and non-degree short-term Chinese cultural tours. All non-degree courses are also divided into beginner and advanced courses.

The College of International Education is responsible for the management of academic and campus life for all non-resident students.

Application Deadlines

Foreign students: Undergraduate students: application from March till June 20. Master's and doctoral students applying for Chinese Government Scholarships should submit application between March 1st-April 5th. Master's and doctoral students applying for Chinese-American Government Scholarship should submit application between March 1st-April 20th. See annual catalogue for master’s and doctoral degree programs, concentration and advisor information. Admission for all three categories occurs in September.

There is no language proficiency requirement (HSK score) for non-degree students.
The minimum HSK requirements for degree students are: Level 4 for undergraduate students, Level 5 for master’s and doctoral students. Applicants can be admitted without a qualifying HSK score but are required to meet the requirement within one year of admission.

There is no entrance exam for non-degree students. Certificates of completion will be awarded upon completion of the programs. 

All degree program applicants are required to provide a copy of their highest diploma and other required application documents within the application deadline. Applications will be reviewed and applicants will be notified when admission is granted.

Application fees should be wired directly into the CAA bank account.

Applicants should provide a photocopy of bank receipt for the application fee (application fee cannot be transferred through on-line banking).

The College of International Education usually mails out offer letters to non-degree program applicants within one month of receipt of application. 

Degree program applicants will usually receive offer letters by July (September is the beginning of the academic year). 

Accepted students will receive a letter of offer with the Academy's official seal and a Form JW202, which are required for a student visa("X1" or "X2") from the Chinese embassies or consulates.

Master’s and Doctoral Programs

Application Documents:

1.  "Application Form of Master Degree Program of China Academy of Art" or "Application Form of Ph.D Degree Program of China Academy of Art". Please log-on to the China Academy of Art, International College website (http://aite.at0086.com/StuApplication/Login.aspx). Please fill out and submit the application on line, according to instructions. 

2. copy of applicant's passport (photo page).

3. Frontal photo of the applicant(Paste on the form).

4. Highest degree certificate, which must be original documents or notarized copies. If applicants are university students, they must also provide an official pre-graduation certificate showing their student status and stating expected graduation date. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.

5. Academic transcripts, which must be original documents or notarized copies. Applicants for master's degree studies need to provide their undergraduate transcripts, and those for doctoral degree studies need to provide their undergraduate and graduate transcripts. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.

6. Study or research plan: in Chinese or in English, no less than 800 words.

7. Two letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors, in Chinese or English. (Professors’ contact phone number and email address must be put on the letter)

8. Applicants must submit digital photos or a CD of the applicants’ profile and own art works (Applicants for plastic arts, inter-media art or public art must provide more than 3 creative works according with the aiming major. Applicants for design art, animation and architecture art must provide for a painting album of design works. Please note title and size for each work). 9.Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form, filled in English.

( Download http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua/dlen.aspx the Report of Blood Examination including the HIV test must be attached.) Students should carry on the original copies of Foreigner Physical Examination Form as well as the Blood Examination while they come to China. The original copy should be kept by the applicant. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid.

10. Photocopy of valid HSK5 or above certificate (students whose Chinese level cannot meet with the requirements of major studies must study Chinese language program at the International College of China Academy of Art for one year).

Short-term Chinese Cultural Tours

1. Tours are open year-round with a minimum enrollment of eight.

(1)International students holding "X" visas must get a Foreigners' Residence Permit from the Hangzhou Exit-Entry Administration Bureau within 30 days of their entry into China.
(2)Students who wish to continue their studies in Hangzhou after the expiration of their visas or  Residence Permits must go to the Hangzhou Exit-Entry Administration 30 days before the expiration date with documents provided by the College of International Education to file for an extension.
(3)If there are changes in residence information, such as reason of residence, passport number, addition or cancellation of accompanying people, etc., students holding a Residence Permit should go to the Hangzhou Exit-Entry Administration to go through any relevant procedures within 10 days of the changes.
(4)If students holding a Residence Permit move to study in other cities, they must go to the Hangzhou Exit-Entry Administration to make a relocation registration before their departure or make the same registration with the local Exit-Entry Administration within 10 days of arrival in their new residence place.
(5)International students holding a Residence Permit are entitled to multiple entries and exits of China within the period of its validity. Re-entry visas are not required in this case.
(6)International students are expected to keep their passports safe and cooperate for possible inspection by Chinese police.
(7)If a student loses his/her passport, the loss must be reported immediately to the local police and the College of International Education. By providing the Case Acceptance Receipt issued by the local police station, the student can obtain a Confirmation of Reporting the Loss of Passport from the Hangzhou Exit-Entry Administration, which is necessary for applying for a new passport at the relevant embassy or consulate general in China. Once a new passport is obtained, the student must go to Hangzhou Exit-Entry Administration to apply for a new visa or residence permit with an introduction letter from the College of International Education.

The following documents are needed in order to apply for a Residence Permit for foreign students:

(1)An official letter from the College of International Education detailing the applicant’s profile, reason for application, content and duration of application, a Letter of Admission, and a Form JW202 or Form JW201
(2)A valid passport and visa (photocopy as well)
(3)Registration receipt of temporary lodging from hotel or local police station (photocopy as well)
(4)A recent 2” full-face bareheaded color photo with a WHITE BACKGROUND
(5)For new degree students or first-time applicants for residence permit longer than one year: a Health Certificate for Foreigners issued by the Zhejiang Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (applicants under 18 are exempt)
(6)Visa or Residence Permit Application Form
(7)Other documents deemed necessary by the Public Security Bureau

Visas and Residence Permits are issued within five working days after submission of all documents by the Exit-Entry Administration of Hangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau

For more information concerning foreigners' entry/exit, residence, visa, employment, study, etc, please check the website of Exit and Entry Administration of Hangzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau.

Students should pay extra attention to the period of validity of their Residence Permits or visas in order to avoid illegal extended residence. Students will responsible for fines or other possible consequences should they overstay their visas.

RULES FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE LAW OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA ON CONTROL OF THE ENTRY AND EXIT OF ALIENS (EXCERPTS) Article 42

“Foreigners who stay in China illegally, or who violate the stipulations concerning residential administration may be given a warning, or punished with a fine of 500 yuan per day for the period of his/her illegal stay in China with the total sum of fine not exceeding 10,000 yuan, or be held in detention for 3 or 10 days; if the case is serious, the offender shall be ordered concurrently to leave the country within a specified period of time.”

Tuition for the whole academic year is paid in one installment on registration. 

Students who wish to withdraw from a program within first week of classes due to personal reasons will be refunded 50% of paid tuition.No refund will be made thereafter.
